Two Inmates Found Dead In Their Cells

Investigators sought today to determine what caused the deaths of two inmates found lifeless in their cells on the same day at Donovan State Prison and nearby George F. Bailey Detention Facility.

There were no immediate signs of suspicious circumstances surrounding the men's deaths, which were discovered Monday, sheriff's Lt. Larry Nesbit said.

"We're still waiting on autopsy results,'' he said.

It was unclear exactly when the fatality at the state penitentiary came to light, he said. The county jail inmate was found dead shortly before 6 that morning, according to Nesbit.

Both men, whose names were withheld pending family notification, were pronounced dead in their cells at the separate Otay Mesa penal institutions, the lieutenant said.
