The 3:30 p.m. invitation-only event is part of President Barack Obama's strategy to promote tourism around the country, which he hopes will lead to job creation.

Salazar and Secretary of Commerce John Bryson will develop recommendations to improve both domestic tourism and attract travelers from abroad.

The White House believes that 1 million new jobs could be created over the next decade if the U.S. increases its share of foreign visitors.

The San Diego Zoo attracts about 3.5 million visitors annually, and is one of the city's top destinations for tourists.
