Veteran Arrested in Miramar Marine’s Shooting Death (Video)

MCAS Miramar Marine Cpl. Aaron J. Talley, 24, was shot to death Sunday in a private residence in San Antonio, Texas. The San Antonio Express-News reports police have arrested Iraq War veteran Philip Pavelko, 25, and charged him with manslaughter in connection with Talley's death.

The Express-News reports Pavelko was a friend of Talley's:

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Pavelko was chatting with Talley in his dining room about 7 p.m. Sunday when the suspect removed a shotgun that was hanging on a wall. Pavelko reportedly told police he worked the pump action on the shotgun, pointed it at the chest of the victim and pulled the trigger.

According to the Express-News, Pavelko served in the Army for seven years, and was deployed to Iraq three times.

A media release from MCAS Miramar states Talley was a native of Clarissa, Minnesota, who joined the Marines in February of 2007. He worked as a corrections specialist at Miramar's Naval Consolidated Brig.

San Antonio television station KENS-TV reports that Pavelko claims the shooting was an accident:
