Teenager Arrested After Bogus Report That Prompted Vista High School Lockdown
Tuesday, April 24, 2012
A teenage boy was arrested today after allegedly making an emergency call to falsely report seeing a student with a gun at Vista High School, a claim that prompted a nearly 90-minute campus lockdown while authorities conducted an intensive search.
The caller, whose name and age were not released, telephoned in the bogus report shortly after 12:30 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. Michael Arens said.
School administrators secured students inside their classrooms while more than 20 deputies surrounded the campus and searched it.
"No one matching the description by the caller was located,'' Arens said. "As deputies were searching (the school), other deputies located the caller, a juvenile. The juvenile had lied about his name to the dispatcher and admitted he had not seen anyone with a gun walk onto the Vista High School campus.''
The boy was arrested on suspicion of falsely reporting an emergency.
The lockdown was lifted shortly before 2 p.m.
