Cal Fire officials said the blaze dubbed the Volcano Fire broke out about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday off Tenaja Road and Via Volcano.

Air tankers, several helicopters and more than 200 firefighters were on scene to stave off flames that were creeping toward several large hillside homes.

The blaze did envelop one large, two-story home on Wednesday afternoon. Television images showed the flames leaping out of the home's roof as plumes of gray smoke blanked surrounding hillsides.

As of 3:30 p.m., the fire has burned more than 400 acres and is 20 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.
