Sailor Killed In Camp Pendleton Training Accident

The military is investigating the cause of a vehicle accident that took the life of Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilson Won Lee, 23, at Camp Pendleton on December 9. Lee was involved in a training exercise called Steel Knight when the accident occurred, according to a news release from the 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Lee was a corpsman with Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group:

The Marines and sailors of 1st Marine Logistics Group mourn the loss of Petty Officer 3rd Class Lee. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Lee was from Lakewood, California. He enlisted in the Navy on February 26, 2008 and was deployed in service of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009 and 2011.

According to the news release announcing Lee's death:

His personal service awards include the Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, NATO Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (second award), and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (second award).

2nd Lt. Savannah Moyer, a 1st MLG spokeswoman, told the Marine Corps Times that three Marines were also injured in the accident that killed Lee, but those injuries are not life threatening.
