Two soldiers from California were killed in Afghanistan last week. Army 1st Lt. Sean R. Jacobs, 23, of Redding died July 26, and Spc. Benjamin C. Pleitez, 25, of Turlock was killed July 27.
The Department of Defense reported Jacobs died of wounds sustained in an IED blast. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
Pleitez was assigned to 1072nd Transportation Company, 746th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 224th Sustainment Brigade at Van Nuys, California, according to the Department of Defense.
