The Department of Defense is investigating the death of Cpl. Anthony R. Servin, 22, of Moreno Valley, California. He died in Afghanistan on June 8th, according to the Pentagon.

Servin was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton.

Servin's aunt, Lupe Nava, told the Press-Enterprise that her nephew was five months into his deployment in Afghanistan when he died.

Nava said Servin joined the Marines shortly after graduating from Canyon Springs High School in 2008.

Nava described her nephew this way:

“He was a very likeable person. A lot of people will remember his smile and his laugh. He always thought of others first.”

Servin's brother, Juan, is also in the Marine Corps. He is based in North Carolina.
