At least three U.S. troops have been killed in a suicide bombing at a security checkpoint in Khost, Afghanistan, according to the Associated Press.
U.S. Defense Department officials told the A.P. under condition of anonymity that at least three of the estimated 17 people killed in the suicide attack were American service members.
A NATO International Security Assistance Force spokeswoman confirmed to Reuters that coalition forces were among the casualties, but would not give specifics as to the nationalities of those wounded or if any NATO troops had died.
According to the A.P.:
Early reports from Afghans said a car packed with explosives rammed into vehicles in an international military convoy. But U.S. Defense Department officials say it's not clear whether it was a convoy. A suicide vest is suspected to have been used.
The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, according to CNN, is reporting that three NATO ISAF members and an Afghan interpreter died in the Khost suicide bombing.
