Body Of Man Found Near Ocean Beach After Boat Capsizes

Authorities today identified a 50-year-old San Diego man whose body was plucked from the Pacific Ocean several hours after the sailboat he and another man were on capsized in Mission Bay.

Edgar Paglumotan's remains were discovered in the surf line of Ocean Beach just before 4 p.m. Monday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Paglumotan and a friend were lobster hunting when a rogue wave caused their 20-foot vessel to overturn late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, sending both men into the water, authorities said.

A short time later Paglumotan's friend swam to shore and was transported to a trauma center, according to the U.S. Coast Guard's public affairs office.

The agency launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a 45-foot boat tosearch for Paglumotan. Police, firefighters and lifeguards also took part in the effort, which continued through Monday morning and into the afternoon.

The Coast Guard suspended its search at 2 p.m. About two hours later, lifeguards found the body.
