Army Ranger From Southern California Killed In Afghanistan

Sgt. Thomas R. Macpherson

Army Sgt. Thomas R. Macpherson, 26, was killed October 12, in Andar District, Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense. Macpherson was shot while on patrol during combat operations.

The Army Ranger was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Macpherson grew up in Long Beach, California and graduated from Los Alamitos High School before joining the Army in 2007.

He leaves behind his wife, Claudia, and his son, Brayden, both of Tacoma, Washington, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. He is also survived by his parents, Troy and Diona MacPherson of Long Beach.
