Two U.S. Marines videotaped urinating on the corpses of dead Taliban will be court-martialed, according to the Department of Defense.

The two Marines - Staff Sergeants Joseph W. Chamblin and Edward W. Deptola - will be court-martialed because of their involvement in the urination incident, which took place during a counterinsurgency operation in Helmand province, Afghanistan in July of 2011.

Chamblin and Deptola, who are non-commissioned officers, also face the following charges:

[B]eing derelict in their duties by failing to properly supervise junior Marines, failing to require junior Marines to wear their personal protective equipment, failing to stop and report the misconduct of junior Marines, failing to report the negligent discharge of a grenade launcher, and failing to stop the indiscriminate firing of weapons.

As Home Post reported last month, three other Marines shown in the videotape won't be court-martialed, but instead will receive nonjudicial punishment.

All of the Marines involved in "urinegate" were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
