A boat house explosion at Naval Weapons Station Earle in New Jersey seriously injured one Sailor and left seven others with minor injuries. The blast happened this morning during routine maintenance on a utility boat.
The injured were taken to area hospitals. The Navy will not release their names until all of their family members can be notified.
The damage from the explosion was contained within the boathouse area. Ammunition and ordnance operations at the weapons station were not affected by the accident.
The explosion was so strong it blasted a hole in the roof of the boat house. However, Navy spokesman Mike Brady told CNN:
"The situation is stabilized. We are investigating the accident."
