Cartel Members Get Prison For Conspiring To Kidnap San Diego Drug Dealers

Prosecutors in San Diego say three members of a Mexican drug cartel who pleaded guilty to planning to abduct three drug dealers who owed money have been sentenced to spend several years in U.S. federal prison.

A judge called the plot "cold-blooded" Wednesday and sentenced 36-year-old Carlos Alberto Andrade to nearly 13 years in prison. Twenty-six-year-old Luis Miguel Salas and 30-year-old Antonio Zermeo received 7½ years apiece.

The three men pleaded guilty in May to conspiring to kidnap three San Diego dealers they suspected had stolen their methamphetamine. Prosecutors say the men intended to take the victims back to Mexico and use violence to get them to repay debts.

The FBI was tipped off to the plot and arrested the men outside the home of the first intended victim.
