Southwest Announces New Nonstop Routes To New Orleans, Orlando

Southwest Airlines announced Monday that it will add four nonstop routes to and from San Diego next year to celebrate its 32nd year of operating at Lindbergh Field.

Daily nonstop service to New Orleans will begin April 8, according to the airline, which offers the most flights at San Diego's airport.

On June 8, the carrier will begin daily nonstop flights to Orlando, Portland and Seattle.

"We are pleased to offer these new service options for our San Diego customers," said Andrew Watterson, vice president of network planning and performance for the airline. "San Diego is an extremely important market to Southwest Airlines, and we believe the addition of these new nonstop destinations demonstrates our commitment to the San Diego community."

According to Southwest, the airline will offer initial fares of $89 one-way to Portland and Seattle, and $149 one-way to New Orleans and Orlando.

The fares are available for purchase on Southwest.com through 11:59 p.m.

Friday in the respective time zone of the originating city. The fares will apply for travel to New Orleans from April 8 to May 31; and June 8-30 for Orlando, Portland and Seattle.

Southwest Airlines began service to San Diego in 1982 and now offers 90 daily nonstop departures to 18 destinations. More than 300 employees of the carrier live in the region, according to the airline.
