Ex-Union Official From San Diego Appointed To California Public Employment Relations Board

An ex-union official from San Diego was appointed to the California Public Employment Relations Board today by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Eric Banks, 41, is a partner at TenPageMemo LLC, which offers strategic planning, government and community relations, conference logistics, messaging, communication and fund development services to clients.

He served in multiple positions at the Service Employees International Union, Local 221, for a dozen years, including adviser, president and director of government and community relations, according to the governor's office.

Banks, a Democrat, was policy associate for state government affairs at the New York AIDS Coalition and worked at the Southern Tier AIDS Program from 1993 to 2000.

CalPERB is a quasi-judicial administrative agency that administers collective bargaining laws covering employees of California's public schools, colleges and universities, the state of California, trial courts and local public agencies like cities, counties and special districts.

The position, which pays $128,109, requires Senate confirmation.
