Senate President Pro Tem Among Californians On WSJ "13 to Watch" List
The Wall Street Journal’s list of “13 people To Watch in 2013” includes seven who were either born, educated or reside in California.

Among them is Democratic state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg. The Journal said Steinberg has become one of the state’s most powerful figures.

Steinberg commented that the recognition is nice, but his presence on the list said more about California’s achievement than his own. He pointed to the state’s emergence from the $42 billion dollar budget deficit of 2009.

“It’s a recognition by a pretty conservative leaning newspaper, but with a national audience that California is on the way back and we made the tough choices over the last four years to get us to this point,” said Steinberg.

Others on the list with ties to California include Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Janet Yellen, and Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman.
