Tank Fire’ At Camp Pendleton Contained

The Camp Pendleton Fire Department is reporting that it had contained the "Tank Fire." The blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon, and burned more than 490 acres in the San Mateo area of the base.

According to the CPFD Facebook page:

The terrain called for fighting fire with fire on this particular incident.

No firefighters were injured battling the Tank Fire, and no property was damaged.

As for the troops, according to CPFD...

Although a large number of Marines are training in the area this week, they were evacuated promptly.

Yet another reason why military bases should never be placed near populated areas.

Preferably, they should be consolidated (joint-service) and located in sparsely populated desert regions. This would be a natural fit for training as that terrain will be the focus of the US military for countless decades to come.
