Power Poles Topple In El Cajon

A half-dozen power poles toppled onto an El Cajon street in domino-like fashion Thursday afternoon, forcing the closure of a stretch of Mollison Avenue and leaving about 1,500 customers without electrical service, authorities said.

A half-dozen power poles toppled onto Mollison Ave. in El Cajon, March 14, 2013.

One pole apparently simply "gave out'' and fell over for unknown reasons about 4:30 p.m., dragging five others with it via the cables strung between them, El Cajon Public Information Officer Monica Zech told NBC 7 San Diego.

Three other nearby standards also appeared "compromised'' but did not come down, Zech told the station.

No injuries or damage to structures or vehicles were reported.

Full restoration of electrical service to the area is expected shortly after 7 p.m., according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
