No Security Changes At Camp Pendleton, Despite Earlier Reports (Video)

Despite earlier reports to the contrary from the Chief of Public Affairs at Edwards Air Force Base, Camp Pendleton has not gone on heightened alert in the wake of the deadly shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard in the nation's capital.

John Haire, Chief of Public Affairs at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster, told Los Angeles radio station KNX 1070 that "he did notice something different" when going through the base's security gates this morning:

“It looks at your ID card and basically will tell this particular gate guard what your status is, and it will also say where you’re authorized, say when the card expires."

However, Camp Pendleton Patch quotes Cpl. Michael Iams, a spokesman for Marine Corps Installations West, as saying:

"Our security personnel here remain vigilant as always, however, Camp Pendleton has not increased its security procedure at this time."

MCAS Miramar spokesman 1st Lt. Chad Hill also is quoted as saying:

"[N]ormal security procedures are in effect on the base."

As Home Post previously reported, the military has not implemented any additional security measures at Camp Pendleton, Vandenberg Air Force Base, or Edwards AFB.

As far as San Diego's Navy bases are concerned, CBS8.com reports officials there do not discuss security measures:
