A non-profit task force set up to revamp California's state park system held its first public hearing Wednesday in Sacramento. The Parks Forward Commission was established after recent financial scandals rocked the Parks Department.

Commission co-Chair Christine Kehoe said Parks Forward will hold hearings around the state over the next year.

"To go through a process of review of the programs and processes of the California Department of Parks and Recreation to look at how the department can be invigorated with some bold new ideas," Kehoe said.

The commission will issue a report after the last hearing. Parks Forward Commission Executive Director Ken Wiseman said finding stable funding for the Parks will be a priority.

"Just looking at efficiencies, opportunities, different models that have worked in other states and countries that we could apply in California," Wiseman explained.

The next Parks Forward Commission hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18 in Sacramento.
