National Guardsman Dies In Afghanistan From Illness

Indiana Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Randall R. Lane, 43, died September 13 in Kabul, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related illness, according to the Department of Defense.

The Pentagon has not released any information about the illness that caused Lane's death.

Lane was assigned to the 190th Transportation Battalion, 38th Sustainment Brigade in Franklin, Indiana.

TheIndyChannel.com reports Lane was born in Neoga, Illinois on Oct. 24, 1969, and was a 1988 graduate of Neoga High school. It was in 1988 that Lane joined the Indiana Army National Guard.
