A new website created by the federal government aims to make it easier for veterans - and their spouses - to find jobs in the civilian world.
The Associated Press touted the virtues of ebenefits.va.gov:
The website... is the first online resource that combines information provided by a variety of agencies and employers. It will help veterans and military spouses build resumes, translate military skills into private-sector aptitudes and provide career and training data with the click of a mouse.
First lady Michelle Obama announced the website during a veterans job summit at Fort Campbell, according to The Tennessean. Along with the new website, Mrs. Obama told the crowd of active-duty soldiers and vets about new opportunities for employment:
Obama announced new private sector commitments to hire veterans, including 55,000 veterans and their spouses by Capital One Bank, a doubling of UPS' commitment from 25,000 to 50,000 jobs, and 10,000 new jobs for veterans at Xerox.
Rosye Cloud, VA senior adviser for veteran employment, told The A.P. she estimates there are between 700,000 to 800,000 veterans are in the job market "at any given time."
