Storms Bring Welcome Snow To California's Sierras

Some drought-stricken Northern California ski resorts that stocked up on snow-makers are enjoying the real thing.

Skiers at Lake Tahoe-area resorts were making turns Sunday on up to 9 inches of snow from weekend storms. Forecaster Holly Osborne of the National Weather Service says up to a foot of snow has fallen at highest elevations since storms began moving through Friday night.

Osborne says the Sierras are at 76 percent of normal precipitation for this point in the year.

Weekend showers brought between trace amounts to more than 3 inches of rain to various parts of the San Francisco Bay Area.

California remains in a three-year drought, although storms last month improved on an exceptionally dry rainy season last year.
