A new mobile app will soon be available to make it easier for travelers to plan their trips across the U.S.-Mexico border at all 71 ports of entry.

The app called “Border Wait Time” which was introduced by the U.S. Customs & Border Protection on Tuesday, will give users up-to-date information on the number of lanes open and estimates on wait times.

Customs & Border Protection's Pete Flores said the new border wait times app allows users to map the best and quickest route.

"Everybody likes the ease of an app," Flores said. "We're really trying to enhance that passenger experience and have them make an informed decision in a more convenient way, as far as logging onto our website and getting that same information."

The app does not require registration or personal information. It is free and will be available on ITunes and Google Play this week.
