Actor Cary Elwes, who played Westley in the film, recently released a book offering a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the beloved movie. The book is called "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From The Making of The Princess Bride."

How much do you know about "The Princess Bride?" Take the quiz.

Elwes will be at Warwick's bookstore in La Jolla this weekend to sign copies of his book. He spoke Thursday with KPBS Midday Edition about the book and what being in the 1987 movie meant to him.

He talked about the scene where he had to pretend to be dead while Miracle Max, played by Billy Crystal, attempted to revive him. Elwes said he had to be replaced by a dummy because Crystal made him laugh uncontrollably.

"It's a sweet film about true love," Elwes told KPBS Midday. "It's also very funny and it's a family movie. I think that's rare today. It was made with a lot of heart."

Elwes said he continues to stay in touch with many of his cast mates and credits his success as an actor to the movie. He's been in more than 25 movies including "Liar Liar" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." He's expected to appear in six movies next year.

"I can't overstate the importance of this film on my career," Elwes said. "It launched me as an actor and gave me the incredible career and life I lead today."
