Authorities have released the identity of a 40-year-old U.S. citizen who died Christmas Eve after a border inspector shot him with a Taser at the nation's busiest crossing.

The San Diego County medical examiner said Tuesday that the man is Francisco Manuel Cesena of El Cajon. A cause of death for Cesena has yet to be released.

San Diego police said he jumped over a counter and attacked an inspector after being taken to a separate area for questioning at the San Ysidro Port of Entry connecting San Diego and Tijuana. A records check showed he was wanted on a felony charge.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Cesena was "combative" and attacked two inspectors on Wednesday. The agency said officers found heroin during a body search.
