Suspicious Packages At Lindbergh Field Ruled Harmless

Two boxes deemed suspicious in the cargo area at Lindbergh Field Tuesday turned out to be harmless, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A dog checking packages alerted at the two boxes around 9:40 a.m., said Lee Swanson of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

"We followed all the protocols and did everything that needed to be done," Swanson said.

He said that around two hours later, the boxes were found to hold more packages containing a variety of items, including electrical cords, candles and cell phone covers.

No passenger service at the airport was disrupted, he said.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
