Army Spc. Christopher A. Landis

Army Spc. Christopher A. Landis, 27, died Feb. 10 at Bagram Airfield from wounds he suffered from a rocket propelled grenade attack in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense.

Landis was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

The DoD lists Landis's hometown as Independence, Ky. Donna Yeager, mayor of Independence, told the Cincinnati Enquirer she plans to order all city buildings to fly their flags at half-staff to honor Landis:

“He gave his life to protect us and our freedom. We mourn for him and his family.”

Landis leaves behind his parents, a sister, and two brothers.
