A recent contribution to the Sullivan Family Baseball Research Center at the San Diego Central Library is scheduled for public unveiling Saturday.

The donations are from the family of William Weiss, a longtime minor league baseball statistician and historian who died three years ago at age 86.

The collection was given to the library and the San Diego Ted Williams Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research.

Items provided to the center include media guides, programs, score sheets and record books, along with old copies of Baseball magazine and The Sporting News. Before becoming the all-sports publication it is today, Sporting News was known for its thorough coverage of minor league baseball.

Padres broadcaster Mark Grant is scheduled to host the event, which will include input from baseball experts.

Most of the items in the baseball research center — on the library's eighth floor — were locked away in the basement of the old Central Library and only went on display after the new facility opened in September near Petco Park. Library officials call it the largest display of baseball records and data outside the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

The center also includes numerous photographs from the collection of longtime baseball publicist Andy Strasberg.
