Tickets going on sale to the public Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. A special presale will begin July 14 at 10 a.m. for American Express card members. San Diego Padres season ticket holders can also purchase tickets beginning Thursday, July 17 at 10 a.m.

McCartney last played San Diego in July 1976, when he did a show at the San Diego Sports Arena — now the Valley View Casino Center — as part of his Wings over the World tour.

Meanwhile, Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band will be playing Humphreys Concerts by the Bay this Friday.

The Beatles played San Diego in 1965 in the now demolished Balboa Stadium. Tickets were $3.50. Lee Louis, a former 10News photographer, said the most interesting part of the show was what happened afterwards.

"Young teenage girls went down onto the field and were picking up blades of grass where the Beatles had walked, and were eating it."
