San Marcos Neighborhood Evacuated As Deputies Look For Gunman

A shooting at an apartment complex near Palomar College left a man wounded Thursday and prompted evacuations as authorities searched for the assailant.

The gunfire in the 200 block of Knoll Road in San Marcos erupted reported shortly before 9:30 a.m., sheriff's officials said.

Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of a wound to the abdomen. His condition was not immediately available.

Deputies evacuated the apartment complex as a SWAT team went through it in search of the shooter, sheriff's Lt. James Bolwerk said.

Authorities closed Knoll Road between West Mission Road and Los Vallecitos Boulevard as a precaution.

The assailant remained at large as of late morning, sheriff's officials said.
