Firefighting airtanker drops retardant on Wildcat fire near Barona Casino, July 29, 2014.

A group of fires blackened more than a dozen open acres alongside a rural road just south of Barona Creek Golf Club on Tuesday, moving toward some buildings but causing no immediate reports of structural damage.

The blazes broke out for unknown reasons near Wildcat Canyon Road and Founders Way in Lakeside about 11:45 a.m., according to Cal Fire.

As of 1 p.m., crews had halted the spread of the blazes, Cal Fire reported.

At 8:30 p.m., the fires covered 25 acres and were 100 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.

The fire agency said there were no reports of damage to structures and no evacuations.

The Sheriff's Department has closed a portion of Wildcat Canyon Road from San Vicente Road toward Ramona, as well as Willow Road and Wildcat Canyon Road. The closures are to keep the public from the areas where firefighters are working to put out the blazes.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
