Brush Fire Erupts In Riverbed Near Plaza Bonita

At least three lanes on northbound Interstate 805 just north of Bonita Road were briefly shut down as crews battled a brush fire in a riverbed, KPBS media partner 10News reports.

The brush fire broke out just before 11:45 a.m. in a riverbed near Plaza Bonita Mall in the National City area, according to authorities.

The fire response prompted the California Highway Patrol to shut down at least three lanes on northbound I-805 heading to eastbound SR-54 after less than an hour.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
