Camp Pendleton is hosting on Tuesday the Military Spouse Employment Program Hiring Fair and Career Forum. The husbands and wives of active duty, National Guard, reservists, and veterans are all welcome, along with Gold Star Spouses.
The Networking Reception is scheduled for Monday night, between 7-9 p.m.
The Hiring Fair will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Pacific Views Event Center on base.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Hiring Our Heroes are sponsoring the event. According to Hiring Our Heroes, the career forum and hiring fair will showcase:
- Employers looking for and committed to hiring military spouses, including MSEP partners.
- Presentations to help spouses plan a career in a highly mobile environment.
- Resume help.
- The launch of Hiring Our Heroes online resume builder.
The 2013 Military Spouse Employment report found that service members' wives in the 18-24 age range had 30 percent unemployment rates:
[A]ctive duty military spouses are more likely to have moved within states, across states, and abroad, compared to their civilian and veteran counterparts.
The increased likelihood of moving from one geographic location to another further compounds economic issues for these families.
