Loose Change From Chargers Fans Adds Up For San Diego Charities

Donations of loose change and dollar bills by fans at Chargers games last fall resulted in the donation today of $15,000 to three San Diego nonprofits.

Checks for $5,000 each were presented to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, San Diego Armed Services YMCA and San Diego Center for Children.

The Chargers ran the "Game Changers'' fundraising program along with Union Bank.

"This is another example of outstanding support and caring hearts among Chargers fans as well as our friends from Union Bank,'' said Chargers Executive Vice President and CEO A.G. Spanos. "It's great how something as simple as loose change can make a difference.''

The Chargers said the money will be used by the Boys & Girls Clubs to fund programs promoting healthy lifestyles, while the YMCA will help children with a parent in the military. The Center for Children helps at-risk children and teens with specialized education and essential therapeutic programs.
