The Veterans Association of North County will honor Memorial Day on Monday with a ceremony to thank and remember military men and women who laid down their lives for their country.

The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Monday at 1617 Mission Ave. in Oceanside.

Chuck Atkinson, founder and president of the Veterans Association of North County, said sometimes people forget what Memorial Day is all about.

"What we'd like to do," he said, "is to bring some thought to what went into making this country so great. And that's the men and women who’ve gone forward to fight for this country over the centuries that we’ve been here.”
