Jim Ryun, the first high schooler to record a sub-4-minute mile, will be the grand marshal for the race.

It begins at 6:10 a.m. Sunday at Sixth Avenue and Quince Street along Balboa Park and ends at Petco Park downtown. Some roads in downtown, Mission Bay, Mission Valley, North Park and Hillcrest will be closed Sunday morning and early afternoon because of the race.

The races end with a free concert at Petco Park headlined by Aloe Blacc.

Dan Cruz, a spokesman for the race, said anyone, not just runners can attend.

Cruz said he hopes lots of San Diegans will line the streets during the race.

"As a marathon runner, the spectators make the race," he said. "And San Diego really turns out to support their runners. And so come out, support the runners. With funny signs, people in costumes, the bands performing up and down the course, it really is a spectacle whether you're running or not."

Cruz said the race will have a heavy security presence, but bags and backpacks will be allowed along the course. Runners can check gear in special clear bags at the start of the race, and extra security will monitor the gear check, he said.

The Rock 'n' Roll race series began in San Diego and now hosts races in 32 cities. This year, it's being sponsored by local juice company Suja.
