A routine training exercise on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Friday sent sent plumes of black smoke into the air.

The MCAS Miramar Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting squadron conducted the training, which included a series of controlled burns, on the airfield until noon, according to base public affairs officials.

Marine officials said no visibility restrictions were expected due to the flames and smoke.
