San Diegans Saved From Sinking Ship Reunite With Coast Guard Rescuers (Video)

Coast Guard Reunites With Rescued Crew

Four adults and one teenager who were rescued from their sinking 30-foot pleasure boat on Saturday night reunited this week with the Coast Guard crew who saved them.

According to the Coast Guard, the PMS Escape II started taking on water 17 miles off the coast of Point Loma.

The Los Angeles Times reports upon receiving a distress call from the PMS Escape II, the San Diego Coast Guard station "dispatched a helicopter, cutter, and 45-foot response boat" to take part in the rescue.

Capt. Jonathan Spaner, commander of Coast Guard Sector San Diego, told City News Service the crew of the PMS Escape II did everything right to make the rescue go smoothly:

“These boaters had life jackets, a back-up radio, signaling devices and knew to call the Coast Guard when they couldn’t keep up with the flooding. Being prepared makes a huge different when you’re out on the water and can sometimes be the difference between life and death.”

No word if Mother Nature played a role in crippling a boat with the caddish name of PMS Escape II...
