Rape Tweets Prompt Navy To Drop Cee Lo Green From Concert

Cee Lo Green's Tweets claiming a woman can't be raped unless she's conscious got him booted from the lineup of entertainers scheduled to perform at Naval District Washington’s Freedom LIVE concert later this month.

Freedom LIVE released a statement on its Facebook page which read, in part:

Unfortunately, one of the performers we signed for the JBAB Freedom Live show on 20 September recently posted comments on social media that we consider to completely inconsistent with Navy core values.

Regardless of intent or context, the lack of sensitivity towards an issue that is one of the great challenges facing our Navy is unacceptable.
A little background: Soon after pleading no contest on Aug. 29 to supplying a female dining companion with Ecstasy in 2012, Green took to his Twitter account to enlighten the world of social media with his knowledge of what constitutes sexual assault. Prosecutors had declined to press charges on rape of an intoxicated person due to lack of evidence, but Green had previously been caught on tape talking about the case and admitting to possession of the drug.

Green has also been cut from Louisiana's Gretna Heritage Festival because of his comments. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will replace him in the concert lineup.
