UCSD has been among the magazine's top 10 public universities for more than a decade.

The rankings are based on academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduate rate performance and alumni giving.

The School of Medicine and Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD were also highly ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

USD ranked 95th overall, and its undergraduate engineering program came in at 14th.

"With our outstanding faculty, students and alumni, our goal for the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is to become one of the nation's top 10 programs for undergraduate engineering education," said Founding Dean Chell Roberts. "For more than 25 years, the students and faculty have built an exceptional department."
