The 19th Annual Writing for Literacy Essay Contest

The friends of the San Diego Public Library are proud to host the 19th Annual Student Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest once again this year. They are inviting all students to submit an essay. This includes any 4th, 8th and 10th grade student in public, private, parochial and home school, who attend a school served by the San Diego Public Library system.

Winners from each school will be announced in the spring of 2016 at branch libraries. Then, four Grand Prize Winners at each level will be announced during a ceremony on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Balboa Park Club. Top prizewinners will each receive a monetary award and a laptop computer, and the top scoring essay will receive a grand prize of $500, awarded in memory of Jack and Carolyn Winer.

Entrants should select one of the suggested topics from the list of topics in the document below. Then print and complete the entry form below, and submit that with your essay to your teacher or local library. If you have any questions, contact Wendy Gay at phlwen@pacbell.net or 619- 697-2024.
