Marine Corps Sgt. Charles C. Strong was killed Sept. 15 in Herat province, Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense.

Strong, 28, was assigned to 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The Military Times reports Strong is believed to be the unnamed coalition service member killed in western Afghanistan Sept. 15 "by an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform." International Security Assistance Force spokesman Marine Maj. Paul Greenberg told the Military Times:

“Currently, Afghan officials and ISAF are reviewing the incident. ISAF continues to train, advise and assist the [Afghan National Security Forces], and does not view these incidents as representative of the positive relationship between our forces.”

Strong is survived by his wife Taylor, who is pregnant with their first child. The couple's daughter is due to be born December.

A friend of the Strong family named Heather Chavez created a webpage at GoFundMe.com to help raise money for Strong and her baby:

"Please keep Taylor and their daughter in your prayers and thoughts. I cannot imagine what she is going through and I know these next days, months, and years will be extremely difficult. I am trying to raise money to buy Taylor the rocking chair she wanted. It would remind her of how loved her and her daughter are and give her a little peace."

Virginia television station WAVY-TV has this report on Strong's background in the Marine Corps:
