San Diego County Property Taxes Due April 10

A large number of San Diego County property owners appear to be waiting until the last minute to pay the second installment of their property taxes.

Around 550,000 payments remain outstanding as the April 10 deadline approaches, San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said Wednesday.

He said nearly 984,600 property tax bills were mailed for this fiscal year, which is expected to generate $5.08 billion in revenue.

"Our branch offices are all ready to serve our taxpayers," McAllister said. "As a reminder, the downtown San Diego branch is the only office that will accept cash. Credit card payments are accepted online and by phone."

He also cautioned taxpayers that it sometimes takes up to 10 business days before his office receives payments from some online banking systems. He suggested people should confirm payment schedules with their bank if they plan to use that method.

Payments can also be made online at www.sdtreastax.com, or by phone at (855) 829-3773.

The five county offices — in downtown San Diego, Kearny Mesa, Chula Vista, El Cajon and San Marcos — will be open on April 10 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to McAllister.

Second installment late payments are automatically assessed a 10 percent penalty, plus a $10 fee.
