Part Of Broadway In Downtown San Diego Will Be Closed For Resurfacing

Eastbound lanes of Broadway between Front Street and First Avenue are scheduled to be closed beginning Friday night for a resurfacing project that will see the downtown San Diego thoroughfare shut down for most of the next five weekends.

The lanes will be unavailable beginning at 9 p.m., and are scheduled to remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday, according to the San Diego Association of Governments.

While drivers can expect congestion, residents and workers in the area will have to put up with noise, vibration and dust as the existing pavement is torn up. Patrons will be able to access businesses in the area while the work is taking place.

The project is part of a plan by SANDAG and the Metropolitan Transit System to enhance their Rapid Bus system, which will have a stop on the south side of Broadway along the affected block.

Westbound lanes will remain open this weekend.

Work will continue next weekend, but skip Labor Day weekend. The project will then continue the following two weekends, according to SANDAG.
