Santa Ana Winds Bring Warmth To San Diego County

A spell of Santa Ana conditions that brought high winds and unseasonable warmth to the San Diego area Wednesday is expected to stick around into the end of the workweek.

On Thursday, the county should see highs of 80 to 85 along the coast, 85 to 90 in the western valleys and 65 to 73 in the mountains, thermometer readings comparable to those experienced in the same locales this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

On Friday, temperatures should begin dropping somewhat west of the East County highlands. The same change will take place in the higher elevations beginning Sunday, according to the service.

The spate of strong winds out of the northeast, meanwhile, will continue in the region Thursday, with gusts reaching 60-80 mph per hour in mountain passes and hitting 30 mph at times closer to the coast, the weather service advised. The blustery conditions will likely continue into Friday morning before diminishing.

Partly cloudy, cooler days are in the forecast across the county from Monday into the middle of next week, meteorologists predicted.
