A California state senator called a $250-a-plate dinner to honor former California Public Utilities Commission president shameful and an embarrassment to the citizens of California.
KNTV reports that Michael Peevey, who is currently the target of a corruption investigation by the state attorney general, was honored at a dinner Thursday night in San Francisco.
Peevey was honored for a lifetime of service to the people of California.
State Sen. Jerry Hill made the remarks about Peevey.
Peevey is at the center of an investigation of back-channel dealings between the state commission and the state's largest utility, Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Emails recently released by PG&E alleged Peevey and PG&E officials routinely privately discussed regulatory matters.
Southern California Edison revealed Monday that one of its executives had a private conversation with Peevey over the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station closure in northern San Diego County. Talks between regulatory and utility officials are required to be reported to the Public Utilities Commission, and the discussion between the Edison executive and Peevey was not.

Peevey announced in October that he would not seek another term after 12 years on the board.
