San Diego has long been known as a hotbed of great musical talent. What’s more, San Diego is home to one of the best music venues on the West Coast. Since 1974, the Belly Up has been featuring great local bands from the Cedros Design District.

This episode features blues, country western, folk, and punk rock of The White Buffalo. The White Buffalo features Jake Smith’s bone-chilling baritone voice and songs with a country face and punk attitude.

The band’s songs are of rebels, outsiders and troubled souls, telling timeless tales set against our recognizably contemporary backdrops. You may recognize The White Buffalo’s music from hit shows such as SONS OF ANARCHY and HBO's CALIFORNICATION, as well as “American Dream,” written specifically for the 2013 feature film "The Lone Ranger."

Over the past few years White Buffalo has played shows both nationally and internationally with acts like Ryan Bingham, Donavon Frankenreiter, Gomez, Xavier Rudd, State Radio, Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley, and Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, among many others.

This show features songs from the band’s concept album, “Shadows, Greys and Evil Ways.” These songs are the stories of Joe and Jolene, a pair of youngsters thrust together by chance, forging a deep, emotionally hot-wired relationship that would at once haunt and sustain them throughout their lives. The stories in the songs are of sin and redemption, faith and doubt, salvation, romance, mortality and more.

In this episode, performances include “How the West Was Won,” “Oh Darlin' What Have I Done,” “The Pilot,” “Wish it was True,” “John Jameson,” “Good Ol' Day to Die,” “The Whistler,” “Bar and the Beer” and more.
