One person died and 20 people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on San Diego County roadways between 6 p.m. New Year's Eve and 6 a.m. New Year's Day, the CHP said today.
That was one fatality and six drunken driving arrests more than were reported during the same time period in 2014.
Statewide over the New Year holiday, there were 309 drunken driving arrests reported, 15 less than the 324 reported in 2014. The same number of fatalities, five, was reported statewide both years.
Of the five vehicle fatalities reported statewide this year, only one involved a victim not wearing a safety belt.
The drunken driving arrest total is only for those made by the CHP, not local agencies. Fatality figures were for all traffic deaths in San Diego and the state.
The CHP investigates all crashes on freeways and on all roads in unincorporated areas.
